Hello Reader,

We had the DPI out here on Saturday July 30.  We have not been told that we are mite free, but the mite kill zone has not been extended so I guess we must be.

As I type the leadership of the NSW Apiarists Association must be deciding how to release the results of the members poll about the DPI mites response.   The two choices being to back the mite extermination model, to admit failure and instead move to a mite management model.   Voting closed at 17:00 August 1, so I had expected that being in the modern age the results would be out by now.

I have done another radio interview for ABC Radio and I passed the above onto them this afternoon.  Stay turned.

Readers’ who are eagle eyed will have noted that price differences in small consumer quantities and large commercial quantities.  This is no accident and has a basis in my logic, which may be quite twisted.

Technoset hives are NOT FLAT PACK.  Let’s try that again, they are not flat pack.  This means they are more expensive to ship as you run out of volume long before you run out of weight allowance with Australia Post.   We can and DO nest hives within the cavity of what is being shipped.   This does save some freight, but it’s chipping at the margins.

Where the BIG savings are on freight is half and full pallet packs via competed road transport.  This gives a volume discount and a large freight saving.

We don’t add margin to freight and if you request it, we will send proof of what we paid for freight.  We make money selling container loads of hives and that’s out plan.  Check out the page called ‘How to Save Money on Freight’ as well.

Australia, prepare for mite and fight it.  The days of wood being good enough are gone.

Cheers,

Roland
